How to categorize eco-vehicles when importing? e.g. scooters, bicycles, longboards or hoverboard.

It’s confusing for regulation and consumers that so many fancy scooters, mopeds, motorcycles, bicycles, and Segways on the market.

Basically we differ ebikes by Bicycle-style electric bikes (BSEB) and Scooter-style electric bikes (SSEB)

As to motorized scooters and low-power vehicles on the market, we usually categorized by gasoline-powered and electric-powered models.

E-bike’s motor is under 750w, has a maximum speed of 20mph, and has fully operable pedals. The same rules of the road apply to both e-bikes and human-powered bicycles.

How long do electric scooter batteries last?

Electric scooter batteries will last between 2 to 4 years and between 3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on storage, use conditions and capacity. If you use your scooter more or store it improperly, the battery life will be shorter.

  1. Don’t store fully charged or with the charger plugged in for prolonged periods. Keeping the battery topped off at its max voltage will diminish its life.
  2. Don’t store the electric scooter fully discharged.Li-ion batteries degrade when they drop below 2.5 V.  Most manufacturers recommend to store between 30-50% charged and top them up to this level periodically for very long term storage.
  3. Don’t operate the battery below 32 F (0 C) or above 113 F (45C).
  4. Charging at a lower C-rate.Between 0.5 A to 2A is optimal.  Some of the fancier chargers let you control this.

How many times can you charge an electric scooter battery?

Electric scooters can go through between 500 to 800 charging cycles before starting to lose battery capacity.

How can you maximize electric scooter battery life?

You can prolong battery life by storing the scooter charged around 75%, charging it with a current of under 2 amps, and not operating the scooter when it is too cold (below 32 F) or too hot (above 114 F). When storing for prolonged periods of time, make sure to top up the batteries periodically.

How to store electric scooter batteries?

It is best to store electric scooters with their batteries charged around 75% and in temperatures above 32 F but below 114 F.  When storing for very long periods of time, make sure to charge them periodically so they are not being stored discharged.

Can I take my electric scooter on plane?

No, most of the electric scooter are now equipped with powerful long distance Lithium battery which contain too much power to be carried with you as cabin luggage and even as a check-in luggage!

Are engine or converter kits legal on push bikes and scooters?

There is no law against them, however any conversion must be carried out to an appropriate standard so as not to render the vehicle unroadworthy, unsafe or likely to cause an accident.

Do electrical bike or electric scooter work in the rain?

Operating your electric device in the rain is not recommended for safety reasons. It is not a good idea to bike or scooter in the rain.
